No. Students can only be in one magnet community. However, a student is not restricted to taking only those electives within his or her community. For example, a student in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship community may take an engineering course, if his or her schedule allows.
It is not encouraged that students switch communities in order to be sure that students follow the proper sequence to obtain an endorsement for graduation. However, students are able to switch communities during the course registration period each year, and the change will take effect at the beginning of the following year.
Students can request to change their course selections or scheduled courses through the first week of the school year. However, many changes cannot be made once schedules are determined. Therefore, we encourage students to choose their courses carefully.
On the other hand, students can request to change course levels (regular, Pre-AP, AP) for a scheduled course up to three weeks into the semester.
Talk to your child about the sequence of courses he or she would like to complete in order to earn an endorsement for graduation. At Ball High School, students have the opportunity to earn all five state endorsements, if they plan early and carefully. Talk to your child’s counselor about planning for the endorsement(s) of your student’s choice.
