Ball High School ensures that all students have the opportunity to earn and keep all credits attempted. “In order to receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days class is offered regardless of whether the student’s absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused. Atty. Gen. Op. JC-0398 (2001)” (Galveston ISD FEC Legal policy).

- Students with 10 to 22 absences (excused or unexcused) in a class period have an opportunity to complete makeup hours to receive credit for each class.
- All makeup hours must be completed by the end of each semester.

- If a student has 23 or more absences in a class, the student will not have an opportunity to complete makeup hours for class credit.
- Students may appeal to the Attendance Committee if grades are above 70. Appeal forms are available in Mrs. Mills’ office.

- Students and parents can monitor their attendance through Skyward.
- Skyward sends automated messages to parents each time a student is absent in a class. It is imperative that parents ensure their contact information is correct in Skyward to receive automated attendance notifications.
- If a student has 10 absences (excused or unexcused) in a class, they will meet with Mrs. Mills to sign a contract regarding makeup hours.
- This contract is also mailed home with a copy of the attendance from Skyward.
- Parents are also notified weekly through ParentSquare if their student has missed 10 or more times in one or more classes.
- Hours are also posted weekly outside the attendance office by student identification number.

- Makeup hours are completed each semester from 6 to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday beginning on the Monday after the first six weeks of each semester, and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays after the first six weeks of each semester.
- Hours must be completed by the last day of the semester.
- Hours are completed in the OCI room or in the lecture hall.
- Students are allowed to read or work on class assignments during makeup hours.
- Students may attend morning tutoring for makeup hours IF they sign in with Mr. Muse and get his permission to go to a teacher for tutoring.

- Students are not eligible for a VOE if they have over 9 absences in one or more classes.
- Makeup hours do not negate this policy.
